My 02 X front bumper needs to be replaced(wife ran into a light pole). I am thinking of replacing it with the newer front grille/bumper like the 05 model. Will it bolt right on? I dont want to replace the headlamps. Just wanna update it since I need to replace it.

sorta gets kinda funky that way.
1) yes you can replace it and it will bolt right on but you will have to buy the 2 angle supports at either side of the bumper.
2) you will have to replace the grill if you replace the bumper.
3)when you do a new grill, it wont clip on at the bottom and you will have to use a couple of wire ties to hold the bottom on. the top screws in just like the older one.

if you want to do headlights too, then you can buy a new header panel and then the new headlights and grill will bolt on like factory. i did my excursion and love it.

 

You think some trimming of the header panel would alow to fit 05 head lights?
I put 05 front on my 02Ex but kept 02's panel and lights .
All went as you described above.thanks

i cut mine to fit. then some wire ties to hold the grill at the bottom.

I upgraded to the 05 front on my 03 when I had someone hit and run me. You will need a lot more then just the bumper, theres a number of reinforcement brackets that bolt to the back for the bumper, and the plates on the front of the frame horns need to be replaced to the 05 style, also there is the plastic part that bolts to the top of the bumper and sits between the bumper and headlights/grille, and the reinfrocement that goes in that plastic piece, and the plastic peice at teh bottom of the bumper is different as well. If you buy it all new/aftermarket it adds up quite quickly. I ended up getting a takeoff from an F250 from one of the members on here and that saved me a LOT of $ even though it needed some work to make it ready for paint, it had the plastic parts and all brackets for a couple hundred bucks, as opposed to well over a thousand for all the new ford pieces. I got paid for my 03 bumper and grille, and still ended up about a few hundred out of pocket to get the 05 stuff used and painted and put on. All new parts, your looking at over a grand more then just the main part of the bumper that you see, more then likely thats all thats damaged. Those lil parts add up quick. 05 grille is around $350 new if I rememebr correctly. I have afetrmarket headlights taht I got used for I believe $150 so that saved me a good chunk of $ as well.

Heres a tip to others, spend the extra $100 for the ford reinforcement panel for the grille/headlights, I have the common brand aftermarket one and my grille sits a bit too low. Very close to the bumper and a bit of a gap between the hood and grille. The parts not made quite right.
