Weatherstrip Adhesive

Hello boys and girls. Just wanted to let everyone know that I am loving my '61 and I think that I am actually getting 18mpg with my 368/TH400 setup. My question to you all is what weatherstrip adhesive works the best from your experiences. What to stay away from. I need to put my new door weatherstripping on before it rains thursday. Something that dries quick! Until then.......hotrod!

Ive not heard a bad thing about 3M stuff...just make absolute certain the rubbers are on the correct doors and the rubber itself isnt on backwards..also keep the split at the bottom near the center of the door....dont be in a rush if at all possible...patience wins the race on this project...

I use 3M black adhesive. Works every bit as good as the yellow, and your "mistakes" don't show near as much.
Make sure everything is clean, read, and follow , the directions. There aren't any shortcuts to putting weatherstripping on.
Also, wipe down the weatherstrip with laquer thinner before starting. New weatherstrips have a fine powder on them, a "mold release agent" that adhesives will not stick to.
Another tip. I use a throw away small brush to apply (smear) the adhesive on the metal and the rubber. Seems to be easier to control that way.
As CS65 said, patience wins the race.

I agree with the above post, use 3M products. Never use the cheap stuff. I found when I did my door seals years ago it was a lot easier to remove the door from the pickup and set it on a padded saw horse and I let it sit over night before installing the door back on the pickup.

My mistake is I used cheap quality LMC weather striping and now need to redo my door seals as they leak. Next time I will be using weather stripping from Dennis Carpenter.

I have done this procedure 6 times in the last (few ) years. I prefer the black 3-M over the clear. for some reason the clear likes to come loose right away. and i have had to redo the doors using the black. just my opinion though. Dutch

I also have to endorse 3M products, they seem to work well....and I happen to work for them.

The 3M works great just make sure it's all clean use acetone. I had fresh painted doors and it wouldn't stick. After i cleaned it up with acetone they stuck fine i think there was an oil or wax that came out of the paint when it dried. Hope this helps.

weatherstrip

I prefer Dennis Carpenter. They have a quality porduct which they stand behind. They offer packages which save a few dollars over individual pieces.

I can take a picture of what the LMC weather stripping looks like on my pickup. It did not fit right and was a royal PITA to install. I only installed it on the passenger side, but it has a lot of leaks.

The set from Dennis Carpenter is a lot more money, but lots of people have installed them and have nothing but good to say about their fit and quality. I belive Dennis Carpenter has the original tooling from Ford to make the weather striping.

I got the same design as the originals from JC whitney and they sealed just fine and we know a little about rain here. Just my opinion don't want to frown on Dennis Carpenter but these were about $16 a door.
