The old glue was really hard to get off I ended scrubbing with scotchbright pad and thinners but I was painting the door. I used black weather strip adhesive available at most automotive supply stores. I also tried to put the new seals on with the door on the truck and found it very difficult the seal is now coming off in a couple areas. Im gunna pull both doors off lay them down and tape the seal down while the adhesive dries.
I got mine off pretty easy with a scotchbright wheel just like Highboy. I used the black 3M adhesive, and I tried to be very liberal with it. My truck is white, and I only have a couple of spots you can see the glue is clearly not the rubber. If you have trouble on the verticals let it set up for just a couple seconds and then stick the rubber to it. I agree with the hot day thing. I did mine on a cool day, and my doors were hard to open and close for a month.
If you are doing a restoration...the glue wasnt always clean as a bell as mine has brush marks on the doors in a few spots...it wasnt black originally too...more yellowy ish color...but make sure you have DC weatherstrip FIRST...if not...send it back!!!
The ends meet in the bottom middle away from the weep hole/slot...and make positive certain you dont get R and l sides mixed up or put the weatherstrip on backwards...do one door at a time!!!
