After a few days in the sun this summer (had to move some furniture into the garage) my dashboard cracked on top. It has progressed to the point that a large piece is broken and has fallen down. All I can find in the net are covers (worse looking than the crack) and dash kits for the front. Does anyone sell the entire dash or the top part of the dash other than my dealer? I thought the Husky kits might include all the parts, but I cannot confirm.
I did an entire interior swap in one of my cars. Let me tell you the dash was by far the biggest pain. You'll have to remove the steering wheel and everything around it, the radio, the instrument panel, the radio cluster, the A-pillars, and a half dozen other things. Then, you'll likely get it about 1" wedged out,a nd have to get up under it and disconnect a half dozen wiring harnesses. The best way I know of to get a new one is to find a totaled truck of the same trim/year/etc, or to order new. Either way expect about 8 hours of back breaking work, plus at least $500 in parts.
Not trying to discourage you or anything, just saying, be prepared to see it through, and what kind of job it's going to be, because once you start, you can't stop. If you get stuck, you're really stuck, and so forth. Oh, and you're vin plates will no longer match.
If you do decide to replace, one idea might be to first remove the windshield. It makes getting to and around that dash a WHOLE lot easier. Plus it is a good time to get one anyway, right.
