That's kinda what I was thinking. Most of the install pictures on this thread are mounted as though that is where they store the flashlight (on the charger). Do some of the chargers have on/off switches, or are you guys with the mounted chargers removing the flashlight when it is charged? Just contemplating my own install, that's all. Thanks!!
They don't have on-off switches. I merely remove mine when it is charged. Nickel-cadmium batteries will develop a 'memory' if used sparingly and charged up all the time. Streamlight and Maglite mention it in their instructions. I have used both flashlights at work every day, since 1984 and proper battery maintenance will give you a run time of about 90 minutes, instead of a lesser amount.
The new generation of LED flashlights demand less amperage, so they are less noticeable as the battery develops it 'set'.
Have any of you noticed a significant drain on your vehicle battery from your flashlight charger?
I have an 08 F-250 with a Stinger Survivor permanently mounted, If the truck sits for more than two days it wont start.
I ran down the battery a few times by leaving loads attached (sat radio, GPS etc...) The loads are now disconnected when I shut off the truck.
Now I know that after completely draining my battery 5 or 6 times in the last year its lifespan has been considerably shortened, but I dont want to put a new battery in the truck and have it last only a year.
I'm hoping that the problem is the weak battery and not an excessive load caused by the charger.
The charger draws very little and should not affect the life of your battery. I would take your battery's history in to account and have it tested, I bet it is on the low side of where it should be.
So, does your charger shut off when the light is fully charged?
GregSD, I'm curious about this, too. Your post read as though it does shut off when it's done. Correct me if I'm wring, but you can swap the bulbs out for an LED bulb on any MAGLite, right?
My charging base has a led on it to indicate when it's charging. If you use the flashlight and snap it back into the charger, the led comes on, then after awhile the led goes out meaning that the flashlight is fully charged.
I have been using mine for 3 years now with no problems at all!!!
Here's a review on the maglite led conversions, it looks like they do not work with the rechargeable maglites:

I know that you didn't call me rookie. The wire was left above the mat be cause the boss wanted it that way for now Heck he was upset that the mounting screws had to pierce the floor. Wait till he sees the new horns. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...s-warning.html BTW the wire is under the sill plate it is only above the vinyl floor-mat
