Ok I have to ask... What do you all need flashlights for??? a weapon? use a thigh holster???
Lights? flip a switch.
Please tell me.Why?
My sig has a tactical light and red dot mounted on it. For the stupid carjacker, or truck jacker that will realize he woke up on the wrong side of the bed.
My son will want one mounted on his race car bed if I get one

For those times when you "flip a switch" and the lights don't come on. Nothing like being stranded out in the middle of no where with no light. Also,
some vehicles don't have a light under the hood. Lot's funner trying to figure what's wrong when you can SEE it!!
Hmm... Why would you need a flashlight? How about: when you're stuck, when your trailer has a problem, when you drop something in the grass after a long day of hunting, when you need to use your spare tire or any other time you might want to see in the dark. BTW just because my .45 has a tactical light on it's rail, doesn't mean I want to point it at everything just to see.
I just have one question. The Maglites say they are good for 1000 charges. If you leave your flashlight constantly on the charger, does that decrease your battery life? Or, are the chargers that come with them considered "trickle chargers"?
They are not trickle chargers and they should be charged only when needed. My flashlight charger is mounted into my across the box tool box and when it is done charging, the flashlight is removed from the charger. It gets fully depleted once a month and then recharged to prevent ni-cad 'memory'.
Pointing a loaded firearm with rail mounted flashlight at anything you do not intend to shoot is neither safe or smart gun handling. A dedicated flashlight is the tool for roadside repairs, hooking up trailers, changing tires or chains, etc.

That's kinda what I was thinking. Most of the install pictures on this thread are mounted as though that is where they store the flashlight (on the charger). Do some of the chargers have on/off switches, or are you guys with the mounted chargers removing the flashlight when it is charged? Just contemplating my own install, that's all. Thanks!!
I have the same charger at work that I have in my truck, and our Streamlight Strion's have been going strong for 3 years now with no battery problems. The Stingers I used at my last unit were still going after 4 years with no battery replacements. The Poly-Stinger I gave my dad finally needed a battery after its 5th Christmas. A $30-$40 battery every 4.5-5 years ain't bad for a good flashlight that I don't take off it's charger until I need it.
I have one of the LED Maglites mounted in the maglite clips behind my seat.
The LED's are pretty bright and the batteries will last a long time. If you like the rechargable thing you can use rechargable D cells.
I was kind of out there with my question, but I had to ask. I have never needed a flashlight but I guess it would be a feature worth having.I hunt, fish, camp, have 4 wheelers. Just never needed 1. My point with a light on my Sigs Rail was incase I was parked making out with my girl and the boogey man shows up. I wouldnt be changing a tire with it. Guess it did sound goofey though. Maybe I will look into getting one of those flashlight mounting setups.
I have 4 stingers and leave them all on the chargers all the time. Two of them have the piggy back batteries and chargers and I leave them on all the time too. Two of them are 5 years old and still go strong. I use them at work every single day all day.

My Maglite charger has a led on it to show you when it's charging, once the Maglite is fully charged the charger stops charging and the led goes out.

Over 5 years, thats great! I wonder if the fact my Dad's was a Poly-Stinger had anything to do with it. I love Stingers, but for crawling around boats and cargo holds at work the smaller Strion works better on my L.E. belt.
