Warmup Problem!!

I have a 95 f250 powerstroke 4x4 automatic and i have a few ?'s. When i start the truck it takes 30min of warm up before it will even move...never had any problems with it in the past. Good runner and it all of a sudden did this. It will blow black smoke for half an hour but idles good. IF u try to give it throttle it gets alittle over 1000 rpm and bogs like its not getting any air. If i shut if off then start it again it gets alittle better. Cam sensor has ben replaced and im outta ideas....just runs like an ol gasser if its not getting proper air when u hit the trottle....ideas please and much thanks

Maybe it,s time for a new thermostat? I put a 203* thermostat in my truck and it sure made a difference.

the bogging your talking about sounds like your exhaust back pressure valve

I,m sorry I didn,t read your first post correctly I thought you had said it took your truck 30m to warm up as in coolant temps.

By the way welcome to FTE!!

The EBPV keeps the exhaust gases from escaping raising combustion temps. They have a tendency to stick or stay closed longer than they should. Normal operation allows them to remain closed until a certain oil temp is reached, or the exhaust gas pressure overrides the valve.

I'd start by checking the EBPV and making sure its moving, however, it sounds like it's doing its job by your description.

Fuel filter is a good thing to inspect as well when diagnosing a hit and miss problem.

The T-state good very well be open aswell. These engines have amazing cooling capabilities and if the stat is not closed it will literally take forever to warm up.

Doesn't sound like you have aftermarket gauges, but what is the engine temp when it's bogging down... I guess what I'm asking is that you believe that the engine is actually somewhat close to operating temp before you drive it.

I would check the t stat.

Maybe the valve is closing by itself maybe it is broken and flapping around check to see if the rod is connected to the valve still just a thought

even if you have the EBPV unplugged it can still close, causing problems, you can tie it open as a short term fix to see if it helps your problem
