My daughter has a 1997 Ford Ranger, 2WD, in which she hit a curb and her check engine light came on instantly. She took it to Auto Zone and it showed code P0171, which is the Fuel Trim Bank 1 condition. What do you think caused this and what can be done about it? I'd appreciate any help, because she is in college and poor. So we need to get it fixed relatively inexpensively.
It doesn't seem to be running any differently.
Thanks for the help.

I read P0171 as system too lean cyl bank 1.
So if she curbed the passenger side, maybe she upset a O2 sensor, or it's electrical connecion, or holed through the exhaust down pipe connection, or someting like that, that's upset the before cat O2 sensor, as it controls bank one fuel trim.
Is the engine now pinging when driven & under some load????
