the old body style truck were terrible about turning radius. we called my 97 1 ton crew cab long bed the "go around truck" cause you didn't turn around anywhere, you "go around the block" to get there. that being said, my 02 F550 crew cab xlong bed, will easily turn within the same radius as my fathers crew cab short bed chevy(spit). love that commercial axle. I have 285's on my truck with a shackle lift in the front. I didn't have any clearance problems before and I have just a little rubbing on the rear of the spring now, but the turning is much better. I did this on a 78' Chevy I had 20 years ago and it made a big difference without any problems, but I had 4" lift with 4" body lift with 36.5" tires.

My tires are 36" tall, no lift.... big problem with turning. We had to hack out the inner fender wells to make it work..

I was just thinking of this last night, with my old truck I could easily park next to somebody, turn around in the street. Now I park out, need to pull into somebody's driveway and back out to turn around. Good idea, keep us posted.

a friend of a friend is an engineer at Ford. He recommended this to me when I purchased my truck. Still on the to-do list...

That is good to know, sounds like it's not going to hurt anything if it's done RIGHT. My question is.......why didn't he "engineer" it in the first place?

They are made on the spindle and stick out about 2". When you make a sharp turn they contact the axle housing. This keeps it from turning any sharper. When you shorten these, they allow you to turn tighter. Just 1.5" has made a much tighter turning radius. I have driven all weekend and don't see any problems. The wifes ABS control unit went out of her van. No brakes at all, so I can't work on mine for a while until I get her going again.

Now I am confused... dosent take much.. but this one has got me.

Not sure about that. My power steering pump doesn't have any issues. The ones you cut are on the front of spindle right? Could be the difference on my early 99' are your 00. My son has a 00' F350. I'll try to take a look at it.

I wonder how the front u-joints would feel after this mod. Mine already knock when I turn 3/4 of the way left or right.
