Front Diff Fluid Volume - Drain Hole

I changed the transfer case, front and rear differential fluids. Went with Amsoil ATF in the transfer case, because I had some on hand. Used the Ford gear lube in the front and rear differentials. Added the 8 oz. of Friction Modifier for the rear (boy does that stuff stink!).

The transfer case and rear diff took the listed amounts of fluids just filling until it ran out the drain hole, but the front diff took almost 3 quarts before starting to run out the drain hole, when the listed amount is 1.8 liters (slightly less than 2 quarts).

Any another experiences in this regard?

2005 Ex 6.0L Limited 4X4

Thanks

1.8 ltrs in incorrect. Be sure to use lubricants that clearly state meeting the ford spec. The front doesn't use synthetic lube, The rear does and this is important due to the heavy load capacities of the truck and wear on the ring/pinion gears. Using fluids that don't meet the spec can cause premature wear out.

For the t-case, my book says 1.9L (2 quarts) Mercon V. I changed it last weekend and I put in Castrol's Mercon V recommended for Ford vehicles. Two quarts did not make it run out the fill hole.
I haven't done the diffs yet. I don't tow much so I'm not overly concerned.

Sorry mis read the 11.8 as in the front diff. 1.8 is correct for the tx case.
