Put key in ignition... turn forward but dont crank engine... radio comes on... turn key forward and crank engine... truck starts... radio goes off during cranking and does not come back on for about 30 to 60 seconds after truck starts ...
Wierd. Have you checked the plug on the back to see if it's connected tight and everything is clean? It could be that your batts are getting weak and don't have the juice to run the radio until the alt. charges it up some.
They are in parallel. You check the voltage across one, you're seeing both. BUT... Sometimes just one can get weak, and the other will mask the problem. That also happens if someone replaces only one battery instead of both (like should happen!). Might be good to check them individually by pulling the pos cable off. How old are they and what year is your truck?
ok, then run a self test on it and let us know if it spits out a code. here is how:
1. Turn the radio on and place it in AM/FM mode
2. Simultaneously press the audio unit preset buttons 3 and 6 to enter speaker walk around test mode.
3. Press Preset button 1 to start the self test
4. After the self test is done use the “DISC TUNE” right button to display the codes
5. To exit the self-diagnostic mode, turn the ignition switch off or the audio unit off.

I certainly don't mean to hijack this thread, but my 6 disc CD changer keeps saying "bad disc" and won't read any of them. Is there any point to me doing this test?
so if I give you an error code can you tell what the problem is? And if so, what are the odds that I could fix it myself and not have to send it somewhere? (last question, I promise.....again, not hijacking thread...ha)
