Cat confusion

My 2000 has a cloggged cat, what are the options out there ? Magnaflow recs 99509HM becuase of the engine size and test weight of vehicle but list is $ 394. They said a smaller cat would burn up. What is everyone out there running and has anybody burned one up ? I know DKF and Skipperw run smaller ones and MF has lots of ones rated for 6.2l and 6000 lbs. I would like to run the smallest quietest and cheapest one out there in front of a 5 x 11 x 22 #14578 MF muffler, Thanks

I have a Dynatech cat on my truck. Well over 15k miles and I havn't burned it up yet. Nice thing about the Dynatech cat is if you burn it up its easy to gut and put a pipe through.

I can't really say. I put on a louder muffler and new piping at the same time as the cat. If you let the exhaust exit in the stock location I think you'll hardly notice a difference in sound between the stock cat and smaller cat.

If you're going to be towing a lot, or hauling heavy, I would go with the larger one so it doesn't get overstressed.

If it's a daily driver, and you just want to fix it right away cheap, and you're not going to be pulling heavy loads, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I bought the MF 95509 cat it was rated for 7.5 liters and 13000 gvw and reccomended for the 6.8 liter and under $ 100. magnaflow reccomended their new 99509 Heavy Metal but it was like 50 bucks more, both have the same 4 tall x 7 wide by 15.5 body. I did not know the difference but figured it was probably just a new type of catlyst. Anybody have a clue what "heavy metal" woould refer to?

I'd put my fingure on a thicker gauge metal I.E more resistant to rust, metal fatigue.

Cut it off and "clean it out" then reinstall.
Cheap and free.

And against Federal Law. Also not cheap when you fail emissions inspections, depending on the state your living in
