I have a 1997 Ford F150 that has an intermittent problem with the right turn blinker. Basically, sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. If you push the right turn blinker all the way up it gives the fast blinking sound like a light bulb is burnt out, but if you push up harder on the blinker lever it will usually start blinking like usual. Also, if you hold the blinker lever up just before it locks into position where it turns itself off after a turn it will usually work. And, usually after the truck has been running and is completely warmed up it will work without any problems, but not always :P
if you know someone that knows a good bit about the workings of a ford then it is something that can be done without the aid of a mechanic or a dealer but if not then oyur best bet is to carry it somewhere. if you dont know how it works then you could end up with part of the sttering column torn out and not know how to get it to work again.
Those switch pod assemblies are usually very expensive from the dealership($400.00 last one I priced). That's because they are multi-function. You might try taking it off and spraying it with some electrical contact cleaner. If you have some corrosion or carbon built up that should help.
It's the switch. remove the trim panels on the steering column, remove the tilt lever by unscrewing it, remove the screws that hold the lever on and replace it. Cost here at our shop is approx. 167.00 for the switch. Don't know where some people get thier prices but if 400.00 included labor, thats high labor rate! I can't ask that much to replace a turn signal switch!
