Does your air conditioner blow to defrost only? If it does you probably need to look for a vacuum leak. That is the default setting when you have a leak.

if you have th ESOF you must roll forward a couple feet. If you can't you must get out and manually lock the hubs

Did you remember to place the truck in neutral and put your foot on the brake before you shifted into 4 wheel drive?

Dont think neutral is necessary for shift on the fly

Did you try to manually lock the hubs like were suggested? How do you know you don't have a vacuum problem?

Obviously you don' t put it in neutral for 4H since this is designed for "on the fly " shifting but if you shifted into 4L then it won't shift until you are in neutral and foot on the brake. same is req'd to shift out again.

You can manually get out and lock the hubs in and then lock the switch in.

All 99+ trucks with manual or auto hubs have a locker on the hub that allows you to turn them on auto or lock them in manually.
