I'm thinking of new tires soon. In your opinions what should I get. Ranger is a '00 regular cab, 2.5 liter, 5 speed. It is used every day for basic transportation to and from work, with the trips to the stores. Don't plan on towing or go off roading.
thanks,
44" ground hawgs. just kiding. where do you live? do you see snow or will you not have that issue. generic wal-mart tires might be enough for you. personaly i run uniroyal liberators in the spring/summer/fall (yes from china-mart, great tires but poor snow/mud traction, high load/wear ratings and about 60 bucks per tire) and in the winter i run dakota futura tires from pepboys, they resemble the bf goodrich a/t t/a and are alot cheaper. i run stock sized 235/15's. summer rims are the factory alloys, winter wheels are take-offs from a jeep wrangler. on a basic commeter regular cab just about any basic tire would do. i liked the goodyear eagle gt+4 tires on my nova, not sure if they make them anymore. thay were a good all arond tire that was queit and delt well with rainy roads.
I have been very satisfied with my 225/70 x 14 Bridgestone Dueler APT III tires. These tires have 30k miles on them and still have good tread. They are quiet and have good traction. When they need replacement I will probably buy the same tire again. They are only available through Sears.
Like Cracked Block said, I got 80K miles on two sets of Firestone 480's. I'm on the third set now with 34K miles, and the sidewalls are cracked and peeling on three of them. The difference?......three made in Brazil. The one made in Canada looks new. Maybe this is why they were discontinued.
thanks for all the inputs. now that I think about it, I had coopers on my F-150 for a while. Gave a nice quiet ride, never got stuck in the Oklahoma snow and ice!!
One other question. Has anyone delt with Tirerack? any problems getting tires delivered or installed?
My experience with Tire Rack has been very good. I needed a set of winter tires mounted on wheels. When they were delivered, the tires were mounted and balanced - all set to mount on my car. The only catch was that the shipping charge wiped out much of the savings from Tire Rack's tire prices.
