I've done a search in this forum and the super duty forum and i can't seem to find a definitive answer.
I have an 05 350 PSD torqueshift and i want to do a tranny flush tmrw, is Mercon SP the correct fluid? Is it 18 qts for a full flush? Also, is it necessary to do a filter swap? If so, does anyone know the filter number ?
18 quarts of Mercon SP is correct though it really depends on how much fluid you can get out of the transmission. Good dealer service departments use a heated flush machine to get all of the old fluid out. There's also info in the 6.0 Tech thread at the top of this forum with instructions on DIY. The external filter in the aluminum canister is an FT-145. They are available thru site sponsor Diesel filters online for a reasonable price. The internal unit is really a fine screen and not a filter, per se. Those are changed at 60K intervals. I change the FT-145 on mine every 10K because I tow.
If you have an impact wrench handy that is the best way to loosen the aluminum canister to remove/replace that filter.
You can get the external filter at any auto parts store for $20, I get them at O'Rielly's here in Houston. Here is a pic of the canaster and it is on the front right side of the radiator. Motocraft #FT-145 $19.99, WIX 57702 $19.99<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
Mine came off with just a soclet wrench but some have had troubles.
