I have had this pair for about two years or more. Not sure on the miles. I don't keep too good of records on tires. I believe they are the 3rd or 4th set on the truck. I have about 160,000 on it now. Bought it new.
I am not much on burnouts due to wheel hop but the smoke comes on the entranc ramps for sure.
I think I have heard they changed the rubber in them and they no longer last as long. I think Coon was saying that with his MT's
I think you are correct Tj ,BFG,s just do not last the way they used to and even the quality is not there anymore I have had this set on for 4 years not so many miles either they seemed to wear good till about half way after that they wear fast one of my fronts also has a broken belt and is pi$$n me off.
Next set will be toyo,s open country they seem to last for a long time we use them at work for all the truck.
thas correct, the bfg's do not last for crap now, thanks to customer complaints they changed the compund, my old set of mud terrains lasted over 70k, the new set of at's dont even have 30k on them and they are BALLED. i do not burn out on these tires at all so you cant blame it on that, the mud terrains were spun frequently and still lasted. the bfg's are still an excellent choice for performance but they do not last.
i would not go over 265-75-16's on your truck, anymore will rub bad, you sit wayyyyy to low. i like the dunlop mudrovers, nasty aggressive tread like the bfg mud terrain just without the side lugs. 150 a peice for your truck, not bad for a mud tire....
i just got Pirelli Scorpion ATR's for my truck. bought them off tire rack. i got 265/75R16 at $168 a tire. i ordered them and then 15 minutes later i got a call from a guy at tire rack making sure that was the size i use on my truck and said he was about to ship out the tires! i got ground shipping and the tires were in my drive way in just less than 24 hours too.
So far i like these tires a lot better. i had some mud grip tires on the back of the truck and from the day i put them on there i could start off slow and then punch it once i got going and it would white smoke the tires(tire most of the time.. LoL). it would even spin them in third gear when i really got on it and i hit 3rd gear hard it would spin a little til about 45ish.. now i drove around easy on these for a little bit and then i got curious if these tires would grip better... uhhhh WAY BETTER!!! i got on it in 2nd and it screeched them for a second then just took off and no more spinnin' in 3rd when i'm racing dodges.. i can't speak for the mileage yet, but so far i love these tires.
I'am running the Mastercraft Courser CT in 285's.If you want traction they have it have 18,000 on them, wearing very well for a traction tire. Look great to.
I've got Toyo MT's in 285/75-16 on mine now. I really like them a lot. E range with 3400+lb rating and they are super smooth and quiet for a MT. I've only had them for a little over a year, so no real treadwear data yet. We have BFG Rugged Trail AT's on the Excursion, those have 45K on them so far and hardly any wear, unbelievable tread life for an 8000lb rig.
I have Nitto terra grapplers in 305/70-16. They are load range E tires and so far I have been very impressed with them. Not only with how well they wear, but also with the amount of grip both on road and off. Quite possibly the best A/T's I've ever run.
Nitto's are a good tire, but have noticed that not all tires are the same. Buddy had a set on his ford and three of them wore pretty well but one wore out faster than the rest. still not sure why.
