forgot to mention, engine is 100 hp. and truck is grey, sorta like ww2 navy color. also, truck is set up for snow duty, not off road. it is way too rigid! (doesn't mean i can't). have had many, many 4wd's, including 94 f350 crew cab centurion 4wd with ALL options, and even that could not go in the heavy stuff like this old dog.
Makes me feel better about my own humble powerplant. See, it goes to show it's not all about what is under the hood. It's how the vehicle is designed to manipulate the power produced by the powerplant and how the vehicle puts the power to the ground.
So what's the difference between snow duty and off road action?
flexibility of frame and suspension. truck was originally set up as snow-blower, would also push plow. i just removed blower and power-plant. rear ratio is somewhere around 5.87. it's not fast, but you will get there!
have 5 crossmembers for strength. frame will flex more than you think. cab is spring mounted to float, so i can twist er up a bit. climbs steep grades well. i chose not to flex er too hard, no reason to hurt rig. it has treated me well for over 18 years now.
