a 08 F150 supercrewcab 4x4 with 5.4 and 3.55 rear.Is this possible to do with out damaging the tran or excessive rearend wear....
Iam looking at a 24-25ft 5th wheel so I can also tow a 14foot flat trailer with my atv's,Harley's and my Ranger dependind on what Iam going to do...I will be adding the ride rite airbag sytem to keep sag to a min....Also Iam a flatlander so towing up BIG hills is going to be minimal being how MN and ND aint got much for hills...
Iam trying to stay away from a pull behind toy hauler and dont need to spend alot on a 5th wheel being how Ive found a few for the 7-12 grnd range that fit the bill...
What does the trailer weigh? Although many times and in many situations a half ton CAN do the job, a bigger truck would do it a lot easier and a lot safer. I tow a gooseneck horse trailer with my F150 and while I will defend to death its ABILITY to do the job, I much rather a larger truck for the added power and safety.
I know to keep curb weight under 8500 and my overall total is 11,000 and under being I have 17 tires and a 3.55 rearend,Ive looked at tow behinds that were in my range but then I dont have the trailer option and even a basic tow hauler is out of the ? due to there cost and the amount of use it would get and the wife really isn't interested in sleeping with wheelers right nxt to us in the same camper.....For me and the boys its not a issue but being how the wife's buying the camper I will do my best to keep her happy.
As long as you have the tow package on the truck, a proper wt distribution hitch and trailer brake controller then you should be ok. Be sure to check the king pin wt if go with a 5th wheel because that gets added into the max load of the truck. Then keep in mind what you are allowed to tow. As long as you stay in those guidelines per your owners manual you can do it. Suggest you get the truck weighted empty so you know the true wt you are working with.
A F250 would be the better way to go if you are going to do this alot though.

thats what I was thinking too
My pal got rid of his 150 cause he had probs towing a 26` boat , picked up a dodge thru work(we`ll see how that goes)He also had hills and alot of around town driving
I know Iam asking a lot out of a 150,maybe I should look into a used 250 for the heavier load but my main concern is a 150 towing a 24-25 foot 5th wheel...I really dont see what the dif would be over a 26 foot tow behind camper being how the weight would be over the axle with a 5th wheel rather then on the rear end with a tow behind.....and yes I do have the tow package...
I saw a guy towing a 30ft 5th with a F150, but didn't know what gears he had....but with 3.55....no way would I do that....not unless I had tranie insurance!!!

What I was concerned about is the 14 ft trailer behind the 5th wheel. I think that you will find that 5vers are heavier than TT trailers.

The trailer I would like to pull behind the 5th is a utility trailer that holds my 3 ATVs or one Polaris ranger and 2 Polaris 90cc sportsmans...
