Still do the check, just to make sure the gas has made it to the carb. If you have fuel going into the engine, and spark from one of the sparkplug wires, then it should take off.

Take a sparkplug wire off, stick a screwdriver up in the boot of the wire, and while holding the plastic handle, hold the metal part of the screwdriver very close to the engine block while someone cranks the engine. You should see a spark jump from the screwdriver to the engine block.

New problem

So,I went out today and tried to start the truck.I pumped the gas a couple times and turned the key. After some persuasion,I got it to start.I moved it back in front of the shop and shut it off.I went back a couple minutes later to see if it would start.I got nothing. So I went and looked over the wires, and noticed that the cable that runs from the starter to the solenoid was loose on the solenoid side.So I undid the negative battery cable and tightened the starter cable.I had a buddy helpin me,so I told him to go try to start the truck.I put the negative battery cable back on,and it starts to turn over. After a couple seconds of it not firing,I tell him to shut it off.He looks at me and throws the keys out the window.I couldn't believe what I was seeing.I grabbed my 1/2 inch wrench and undid the negative battery cable and it shut off.I waited a bit,and then tried to put the cable back on.It sparked and tried to start, without the key in it.What in the world is causing this?I believe the starter is engaging when it's not supposed to.I looked it up in the repair manual, and it said that the pinion gear or somethin like that is binding or sticking. Is that it?And what can I do to fix it?Is it even fixable? My buddy is convinced that my truck is haunted by the original owner.

Next time at auto parts store pick up a test light. Take a look at Franklin 2 first post diagram.Take #6 wire to starter off and put to the side.Connect battery #2.Put clip of test light on #2 then probe on#1 light will come on.Then touch #3 light will come on.This all with key off. Now touch #6 post of solenoid light should be out.If on take #5 wire off and check #6 post if still on solenoid is stuck closed change it.IF it goes out on post #6 have friend turn key to start position with you with probe in #5wire light should come on at start then off with key off.

I think during some of the previous posts you mentioned you changed the starter solenoid? If so, hunt up the old one and put it back in. The new solenoids they are selling now are junk.

The one I replaced was the original one that came with the truck 29 years ago.Still had motorcraft on it.I had already tried that, and when I did,it was clicking.BUT,that was with a bad battery,so i'll try it again.I've been having girl trouble,so i'll have to get out there tomorrow and work on it some more. Thanks for all the help!
