P1744 Analysis Help Needed

OK, I've read and read on this but need some help deciding what to do next. My 99 Expi 4Wd 5.4 4R100 with 223k miles is throwing a P1744 code. No other codes and no flashing OD light. It's probably coincidental but the situation started the day after I had the battery disconnected to R&R the fuel pump.

I started with dropping the pan and cleaning. Only a little sludge and fluid not discolored or smelling burnt. Refilled and flushed using the Mark Kovalsky procedure though I used Mercon V per the new TSB.

Tranny feels good... solid shifts, no slipping but threw the P1744 code again within a few miles of reaching highway speed.

Here's the question for you tranny experts. Obviously, in today's market, with these miles, this truck is worth $2,000 no matter how nice and well maintained it is. What is the chance that this is a solenoid pack which I can replace and/or what is the chance that I have to spend the $1,700 I was quoted to do a complete rebuild?

Is it worth the gamble to R&R the solenoid pack? I realize I'm looking for opinions but i welcome them all.

Thanks for your help.
Dan

Reset the PCM and retest. Might be an anomoly.

If not, you probably will need a new torque converter after you find out why your TCC apply hydraulic pressure is bleeding low.
