Delo (Chevron) ELC is good for 750,000 miles (1,000,000 if you add the supplement package at 500,000 miles) and no more SCA testing ! The coolant was $18 per gallon (undiluted, and I had to buy a case of six gallons). I changed mine and installed a coolant filter at the same time...$72 for coolant, $15 for distilled water, and $100 or so for the filter system. Now, I need to change both the Volvos and I will never have to change coolant again (at least on these three vehicles). Can anyone see a reason why the Delo ELC wouldn't work in the Volvos?

I don't know if anyone knows how long...if the SCA's were at zero, I would suspect that some pitting has already occurred. Get the thermostat at the IH dealer...it will be cheaper than the dealer and first rate quality. Make sure the thermostat is the same as the one you take out.

You want to use distilled water, not just spring water.

deionized water will also work...Oh and you'll need about 20 gallons. Did you read the procedure on switching to ELC coolant? Gooch has a good one...I'll see if I can find it.

Our water is so bad out here (though I have an almost unlimited supply 30 feet down) they sell every kind known to man in almost every store...myself, I have a iron/manganese/softening filtration system in my house...but I still buy distilled or deionized when I do coolant and for my batteries (my house batteries use a large amount of water - about a gallon a month).

I'll have to look a little closer next time I go to the store. I'm suprised that your well is only 30'deep. Mine is close to 325!

The well is 140 feet deep, but static water level is at 30 feet with unlimited (50+ GPM) water...just down a little hill from my house (on my property) is a year round running stream which flows through the property (very rare out here in the desert...we get less than 6" precipitation per year). The city of Sparks wants to annex my property for the water ...they want to put in a commercial well and pipe the water to Sparks...another fountain, another golf course .

Im confused.............. so i did the flush like it says how to in that link i posted......flushed it with garden hose.... drain.... distilled water.... drain.... distilled water... drain.. then coolant..... so for the last flush with the distilled water i filled up to the top, ran motor.... then unscrewed the drain on the radiator and pulled both the block plugs.. i did not pull the lower radiater hose ''i dont think'' ... screwd the block screws in and put in the thermastat closed the drain valve on the radiator then filled with 4 gallons of coolant and only 2 gallons of water???? that only is 6 gallons???? not 8... the first flush with the distilled water i fit 8 gallons in... can there really be 2 gallons worth of air in the system? if there is that much air in the system should i be worried about driveing it?

You never get all the coolant out of the system, even when pulling the block plugs. 1.5 or 2 gallons is about right. That's why you want to use concentrate and not the pre-mixed stuff.
