Difference in Cam Position Sensors?

Difference in Cam Position Sensors?
I'm wondering if there were different CPS's used.. I have a 95 PSD. Have read that the CPS is prone to fail, so seeing that I'm planning a long road trip decided to buy one to carry with me, called the Local Ford Stealerships, and found one priced at $30.00, the other Stealership quoted $169.22...
What's the diff? Stealership said that the one for 169.22 is the correct one and that most likely the $30 one from the other dealership would fail...Does anyone have an idea as to what's what here... I also checked with NAPA and they want 42.11 for one, but I'm not so sure I trust NAPA, have had bad experiences with them before...

Seems like the 1807339c92 was the original International blue CPS then the part number was changed to 1885812c91 which could be either black or gray. One of our sponsers here sells that CPS for a bit over $100. Think I'm going to stop by International and see if they have the 1885812C91 and what the cost is.
ron, maybe the number you quoted 1876735c91 is now the newest number.

Thanks Ron, looks like that is the one I have for my spare. The package is a Ford part number F7TZ-12K073-B however stamped on the CPS itself is what you have .. 1876735c91. I'm still going to check with International for the T466 CPS 1885812c91 on cost.

Yes, there are different CPS's. 94-96 uses a CPS that has the contacts on the sensor and the harness tin plated, and on the 97 and later they are gold plated to be OBDII compliant. Either one will work in any year truck but there is a possibility of galvanic corrosion of the contacts because of dissimiliar materials. Lots of guys have used the 97-03 sensors in the early trucks with no problems either because for a long time there was a price difference between the two or they needed one right now and they used what was readily available. As long as you have time to plan ahead and get the right one there's no reason to use the wrong one. The link that TJ posted is a good price and powerstrokeshop is great to deal with.

FYI just picked one up at International here in Reno. Part #1876735C91 for my 97. It cost me 18.50 out the door. Parts guy said it depends on your engine serial # because they had two different ones. Other one they carried cost around 40.00 for older engines. Where is our engine serial # any way? Thanks in advance.
