In the test drive after the 4" MBRP exhaust and gauges I tried the overdrive off switch - been years since I used it. It did not function. I checked all the fuses, no issues. I took the column apart to see if there was anything obvious and found a broken wire at the end of the shifter tube. I got the soldering iron out and soldered it back together, but tis still inoperable. Anybody have a diagram for a dash mounted switch? The one in the end of the shifter always seemed to me like a pizz poor place for it anyway.
1. my overdrive off switch in the shift lever is inoperable
2. I'd rather do a dash mounted switch than chase wires in the column
3. where do I tie in, there is a light and the input to the pcm....I assume the input is sourcing but it may be sinking...I am looking for a digram to assist
just pull the column cover off and take a look in side..the wires chafe do to shifting or tilting the wheel..some times can be fixed with a piece of tape.. ....if not..a new shifter from the dealer is only 50 bucks and its very simple to do...there's too many wires the PCM needs to read what's going on..just replace the shifter if you cant fix it with tape...

There are 3 wires there. If you've had the column cover off, you can trace the wires from the shifter back to the plug. Cut the wires off the shift lever and use that as a pigtail to add your wiring to the dash.
I don't know which wire does what, so either before you cut the wires put a meter on the wires and see if you can figure out which wire does what when you push the button, or remove the cap off the end of the shifter, then slide the button out of the shifter, and test the 3 connectors in the button to see which wire does what. I would guess 2 are for the on/off function and the third would be for the light.
lol..might's well just fix it while your there..the new shifter has been up dated..it has a better jacket over the wires..once you get to the shifter..its just plug and play.. but that's a good idea about re using the button.you have there Chris.. if they didn't up date the shifter..I would probably do it that way...
thanks guys I figured a new shifter with switch would be several hundred....I just ordered one on my account at the regional ford parts depot for under $50.00. I found out I had time to ship the part before I ordered... several gooseneck runs in the near future... I like my transmission as it is, unroasted....and did not think I had several days when I posted this last night.
