My 95 F250 has overdrive switch on the end of the transmission shifter. Pushing the switch results in no change. What are the possible or most likely cause? I can't find a fuse. Where is the actual switch located? How can I disassemble the shifter to get at the button to check for corrosion buildup?
On my truck I have the same problem. As it turned out what I had to do was jiggle it back and forth and sometimes it would work. I crawled under the dash and adjusted the small spindle looking thing to get the shift lever to line up perfect again. It solved my problem. Now it works but it still has to be in the right place for it to work. Hope this helps. Oh yeah the spindle lookin thing easy ID is it has a silver wire leading into it, it is a black plastic piece.
The button is easy to replace. Just pop the outer ring off with a pocket knife or other suitable instrument and the button pulls right out. It only cost me $13 for the one in my 93 F-150(The light went out in mine). But, the Ford parts guy told me that our trucks are notorious for eating up the wiring harness right where it makes the turn to go down the steering column. Says more often than not the problem is right there. I checked mine and sure enough there was evidence of some pretty harsh rubbing, but it hadn't gone all the way through yet. Some electrical tape recovered the damaged spot and my dremel tool eased the sharp edge of the plastic. Something to think about. Good luck.
