I didnt want to spend the money for a tuner, i needed an inexpensive coder reader only. I already had a scanguage2 but it did not work on my ford diesel.

Sorry, I wasn't suggesting you buy a handheld tuner. I was just wondering if this is a common prob with code readers.
I was surprised because both my handheld tuners work great as code readers, and I was perplexed as to why it was difficult to find a code reader that would read the PSD codes.
Is this a common problem for the PSD's? Finding a code reader that works for the 7.3L'rs?
Yes. The 7.3's aren't fully OBD II compatible. IIRC, you can pull some general codes, but nothing really specific for the engines unless you use a factory scanner or AE. Thats why Chris is playing 20 questions with you.
What info exactly are you looking for? The codes he listed are only on the early bird models since they used a shunt on the GPR which the rest of us don't have.
That will give you the list of the 4 digit P codes and the diagnostic tree to follow. When you click on the link to go to the pinpoint test, you can usually scroll up to the top of that page and click on the "XX" Introduction which will take you back to a general description of how that sensor basically works.
I dont really have a need for the codes (I use guzzles site) but more of a need for that workshop manual! Im not the most up to speed on how to take things apart and fix them (although Im getting better with the help of this site).
Sorry for the back to back post...dont know how to put 2 quotes in one reply yet!

I just bought an F250 7.3 (2002), the engine light is on, so I went to Advance auto parts and borrowed their code reader. code reader said "Pass". But the light is still on. The engine light comes on after the truck warms up and stays on.
Are there PC based diagnosis software programs that will allow you to use your Laptop computer to plug into the OBD II port and diagnose the engine codes?
