rotor arching to distributer cap?

rotor arching to distributer cap?

i keep having a problem where teh rotor sparks to the points in the distributer cap and i was wondering if theres a reason why this happens so offten, every couple weeks i have to clean up the rotor and cap with emerycloth to fix it untill i ahve to buy new parts can anyone help

It's supposed to do that. The rotor tip and distributor cap posts do not make contact. The spark jumps across. It's normal for the contacts to appear slightly burnt over time. The only part of the rotor that physically touches the distributor cap is the raised center piece.
