Are these heads worth getting at a wrecking yard? I actually found 2 sets yesterday, but didnt have the tools to get them.
I eventually am planning a 390 build with a scat crank, but that is down the road a ways.
Anyhow, thanks for any info.

They are the big port heads. "I like them" there are some different molds of them though. Some have a hump in the exhaust where a boss for the thermo plug would be tooled. These I prefer to pass on. Easy enough to see after removing the ex man just run a finger in the port and see if you feel a bump about 1.25" in at the top. Maybe even see this as a boss on the outside ? Need to look at a set to confirm, both may have the boss.
Bob, what are the date codes for your heads that don't have the bump inside? I checked the 4 I have and found all of them have "the bump" in the 2 ports on the right.
Yeah the C4's are Tall ports and pre smog !! I had 4 sets and never had a smog injector port in any??? Mid year 65 or 66 was when the short port smog heads came out as I recall...
But to answer his question..the C4AE-G heads are the best flowing heads with port work..even better the the CJ's with port....
Lance, the C4AE-G heads are well thought of. They have the larger intake ports, the higher exit exhausts, and good bowls. If they don't want an arm and a leg for them, by all means, get them. You might want to consider if you can get the 390 crank/rods/blocks they're on top of as well. What kind of cars are they in ? Some folks want the cruisomatics that should be behind those engines as well. DinosaurFan
