hey guys, i have a dilema and would like to know some of your opinions. I am needing to have a very nice (ie. new looking) grill surround for my 1978 F250 sometime in the next 2-3 months. I have two choices - let me know what I should do 1) have my original grill shell professionally refinished, polished, scratches removed, and re-anodized for ~$1000 and this will take ~6-7 weeks to have done and and back to me or 2) wait and see if DC can have new repro's for sale after the first of the year (no guarantees on when they can get the metal issue resolved) and their price is $550.
My body man will need this probably shortly after the first of the new year. What do I do?
Anybody know of someone / someplace that has a new one for sale, OEM or repro????
Brent thanks for those links. I've called BG - they get their grill shells from DC and DC has no more...... NPD and BLUE OVAL are more than likely overseas reproductions - those parts aren't going on my american made truck(i guess Canadian made truck lol) if I can help it ....sorry. Some one correct me about NPD if they are guaranteed NOT overseas imports. I've even tried Green Sales and any other OEM / NOS parts places i can find. Anybody have any clues or suggestions? I'm all ears.
Check your local wrecking yards, I say this because I have seen a couple that looked extremely nice and were in good condition still? But it depends on how "perfect" you want it, if it is a showroom truck or something like that you might get lucky and you might not.
I called DC last summer when I was looking for one and production is on hold. They're having problems with the aluminium cracking when they stamp it. I think your best bet is to get your old one refinished, but I think $1000 is way too high for that.

a $1000 is too expensive in my mind. An older guy I know restored a 78 F150 and he got it redone for about $400? and it looks better than new lol.
Internet search: No Ford dealer or obsolete parts vendor has one.

There's a new repro parts seller in Orange CA: truckandcarshop.com.
The last time I was there (June) they had several of the '78/79 grilles in stock.
Y'all might call them: 800-243-8947 cuz you never know.
They show two different 78/79 grille shells in their catalog.
They have their own part numbers, do not use the Ford part number.
78-10026 IMPORTED $145.00
78-10025 ORIGINAL TOOLING (Dennis Carpenter) $595.00
ok guy, i can quit thinking about this dilema now and can sleep at night!!! I drove 3 hours one way and purchased a brand new in the box FORD grill surround that looks absolutely beautiful for the same price as a DC repro. Thank god for internet searches!! lol
Thanks for all the input guys!
BTW $1000 was way to much for me to spend on the original shell. It is in good enought shape for a daily driver but just wasn't show quality for my Crewcab resto.
