I thought there was a pic thread for this a while ago but I searched the crap out of it and could not find it.
I plan on painting my '78/79 grille surround black. Not sure what I'm going do about the insert, was considering ordering a black/argent one, but having trouble visualizing that combo. If you painted your surround, or if you have pics of someone that did, please post em up! Thanks.
Here is another I found while searching. I personally do not like the chrome surrounds and silver grill mixed in... not liking the look on that on as much as the one above.
My body color is tan, and I'm using '78 round headlights. I'm thinking about masking off the leading edge and painting the leading edge sand (tan) to match my truck, and painting the rest black.. maybe doing tan headlight buckets as well. hard to visualize still, but when the time comes maybe I'll just do it and see how it turns out.
Disregard previous post. I'm not sure if this is what you described, but i think it would look pretty nice with a scheme like this. With the horizontal insert faces also painted black. (it's rough at best, I know)
My truck isn't really together and/or painted at the moment. lol.
I dunno I don't really like that. I need to keep brain storming. I think I like the red with with the whole front clip blacked out right now. I have ordered all new rubber trim that uses no molding, and the truck has a black diamondplate flatbed and a black diamond plate winch bumper, and I'm planning on putting black cutout flares on the front. Its the truck in my little avatar pic, only I'm swapping a supercab onto the regular cab frame, cutting the flatbed down, and painting the cab its OEM color of tan.
I do agree that the red blacked out truck picture does look better. I personally don't like the one piece insert grills. It's your truck though. Either way it'd be pretty hard to ruin the look of the truck, 'specially with that flatbed on it.
everything else on the truck, all the trim and etc, is black, so the grille looks weird being silver. And I don't like chrome. The color is "sand" so its like a desert tan only its glossy. I just thought with the black wheels, bumpers, mirrors, bed, etc, it would look tough with a black grille. There is a guy here in town, also an older style grille, whose is blacked out like the camo truck above, and I just really dig it. Maybe I should swap to the older style!
Yeah I'm gonna pull my '73 grille shell out of the aluminum scrap pile for now, lol. Just in case. I don't know if I have buckets and etc for em but I'm sure someone can help me out if I decide to go that route.
The red Bronco's grill looks right because glints of the vertical and horizontal bars are apparent due to the gloss. If it were flat, then they'd disappear and just look like a big black hole.
My rig, the camo'd truck above, has silver leading edges but is otherwise semi-flat black. It needed the silver edges to maintain its visual identity as an an early Dentside.
