No I wasn't confused. From what I have read posted the upper narrow trim was said to of been painted. I know the lower rocker molding has 2 black lines painted on them.
I don't have a whole bunch of experience when it comes to part numbers and what trucks should come with what, but I've never seen a painted moulding either

D3TZ16003/4B: The entire moulding is not painted, just the insert portion.
The moulding is anodized aluminum, the black paint was only in the center section.
These mouldings were only used on Customs. They were optional on most, part of a package on some others.
After 30 some years, the black paint has faded away like an old soldier.
Here is a picture of my fathers 1976, taken 30+ years ago, (My 1973 is in the background).
This molding was standard with customs IF it had a tu-tone option.
If you guy's are talking about the center moulding on my father's truck, then I know for a fact this wasn't painted. The truck was bought brand new. I've also seen this trim on Rangers, and there is a Ranger with this trim not more than 2 miles away from me now. As for discrepencies in the parts books, I've found several. I think this is one of those instances.
