Gang, I'm looking for recommendations on which bug deflector for the hood of a 06 F-250 is best. Ease of installation, good looks, and functionality is important. Thanks.
I have always been very satisfied with the one that is made by Auto Vent Shade, they seem to stock them at the popular auto parts chain stores, and unless you want a chrome, cammo, or body color one you really can't beat these!
I'm not affiliated with Summit racing equip but, you might take a look though there on-line catalog. They should have many different styles and brands to choose from. All with pics. Cabelas or however its spelled would be a good source on-line as well. Good hunting.
Oh, my two cents on functionality would be to pick one with a raised lip toward the back as to create the air pocket in front of the windshield. The full rounded styles tend to protect the leading hood edge and not do much to deflect bugs, snow and such. At any rate don't expect them to save the glass from stone chips and cracks. I have Wade brand clear headlight covers on my 04 and love em. Cheap insurance at any-rate. Mounting for many seem to be owners discretion. IMO the screws through the under pinnings of the hood frame goes along way toward retention. Just pick flat interfacing locations (usually stipulated by manufacture) that don't cause any flexing of the shield at the screw holes that can cause cracking. Put some rubber washers or other semi soft material between the shield and hood. Use star or split ring washers and slip ring (flat) against the shield (snug, not to tight) and shield movement should be held to a min.

Get one that's easy to remove. I have to take mine off regularly to clean under it. You would think a soft sponge would compress enough to get all the way down to the front lip, but it don't. Looks like crap under there everytime I take it off.
Who manufactures the bug shield that the dealership sells?
Marty
The one for my 2005 F250 CC came from the Ford Dealer with a Ford part # on it but says LUND on the platic. This is the same for my shades on the top of my windows
I'll go with Lund as well. I have one on my F-250 and love it, it took about 5 min to install. It's been on the truck for 4 years and no problems. To clean between the hood and deflector I use a wash mit--works great.
I have the WeatherTech one on my truck - no problems - nearly identical to Lund. I believe Reese makes them for WeatherTech as that is what was marked on mine when it arrived.
