Hunting

How did everyone do Hunting this year?

I took a doe out of unit 14. No one in camp saw any elk. I was the only one in camp that took anything. I saw plenty of does and one buck that was flyin through the woods.

Thats O.K. though, because I prefer to bird hunt-now if I could just find a few more pheasants............

Has or does anyone hunt the W.M.A.s? What are they like to hunt? I am thinking about trying them out, but don't know if it is worth it or not.

I didn't get a chance this year, I know one of the owners at J&W got a deer, and Wayde was telling me he saw quite a few elk on hunting trip, but I don't know if he got any.

So I went out and hunted the Niagra Springs WMA and took 1 bird from it. It wasn't too bad. Also went out on some public land and took 1. I'm not seeing a great number of birds anywhere but they have been holding pretty tight for us. Whats everybody else seeing out there?

What were you chasing down at Bell Rapids?
Its been so nice around here that all of the farmers are getting their field work done, so the birds seem to be more concentrated but at the same time they seem more skiddish though. But that is my experience this year so far.

Duck hunting. Usually pretty good there, but I think its been to warm to get the birds moving around.

You are definetly right on that one. I haven't been out duck hunting yet just for that reason. Hopefully we will be getting some cold weather in soon and get em' moving around. That and some cold fronts up North would be nice too.

We went out for deer a couple times and got skunked both times. Saw a few elk on the first trip but no deer. Plenty of tracks so they were in the area. Same deal on the 2nd trip. We were going to head up to the Selway area in unit 20 but decided that gas would be too expensive and the weather wasn't looking all that great (didn't want to get snowed in). We've been trying to get out for some ducks but our schedules haven't meshed too well. Still plenty of time left in the season so, hopefully, we'll be able to get out a few times. My craving for duck jerky is out of control

We went out this past Saturday and got 3 pheasants between myself and the boy. I have finally been seeing some duck/goose movement around here, hopefully we can get out and take some before everything gets frozen solid.
