That will eliminate half of the A hole drivers I see on the road as that seems to be their #1 choice in vehicles, with Suburbans and Blazer's coming in second. I know they are also floating the Hummer brand to overseas companies.
I wouldn't be to fast to dump all my suv's. Americans still love them, the escape and mariner are selling like hotcakes, the edge isn't doing bad either. We just want more effient suv's, econo boxes still don't excite most of us. People were just shocked out at 4.00 a gallon gas. We can thank the tanking economy for cheaper gas right now. They can't sell gas to people with no money, opec may have to drink a little of thier oil if they didn't get prices down. Even with prices down, keep conserving where ever and whenever you can, lets keep demand falling, that will help keep prices down. We still need our own oil and other alternitives. When we do, oil will stay cheap as they will have to fight for our business against the alternitives and our own crude and natural gas.
How long did the Ford Excursion last in the marketplace? The large SUV only has limited "utility" compared to a full-size van and not much "sport" compared to the smaller ones.
These vehicles were just refreshed, so saying they are dead (except the Caddy) may be premature. The GMC brand needs to go away. So, you have a Chevy Suburban built on a pickup chassis left, just like it was for decades. The Tahoe replaced the Blazer, but they were too short to share the exact same pickup frame/wheelbase.
Back in 1988, the pickups were redesigned, but they delayed the Suburban (and crew-cab pickups) until '92 for the redesign. There are all kinds of reasons for GM to save development cash, but not necessarily stop building everything.
Even if they don't quite stop producing them, I believe the soccer mom riding two kids around in them days are about over. People who actually need one for towing/working will still be buying them. I've noticed when going shopping, just looking at the receivers, and a very high percentage of them have never even had a hitch in them.
