cowl hood question
just wondering if anybody had pics of their trucks wih cowl. if you do, can u tell me the width, length and rise. also where you got it from.
thanks
although i would have to pay more for paint, but im having my truck touched up when i do go and get the hood painted. also getting new metal on the box taht will need paint. and my truck was keyed almost full length of the truck so that also needs paint.. any one know of anything cheaper? i do like the metal scoops over the plastic.

...and here's a pic of mine. Both are Cervini's. Check their website.
or anything but for mud snow and big splashes would a functional cowl hood do better than the stock intake as far as getting less water and mud in it or bad idea?

I remember a Chevelle from the A-body series (68-72?) that had "Cowl Induction" which, in that instance, meant it had a functional hoodscoop that was located near the cowl side of the hood, as opposed to near the leading edge (near the headlights), as some forward-facing hood scoops have been designed. In other words, that area with the vents, and windshield wipers, immediately in front of the windshield, is what is known as the "cowl" on a motor vehicle--at least in my world. LOL

But cowl, IMO, does not = hood scoop. The Chevelle had "Cowl Induction" because it had a functional hood scoop (vacuum-operated, no less!) that just happened to be located near the vehicle's cowl....
Consider this, from Dictionary and Thesaurus - Merriam-Webster Online
Main Entry:
cowl
1 a: a hood or long hooded cloak especially of a monk b: a draped neckline on a woman's garment2 a: a chimney covering designed to improve the draft b: the top portion of the front part of an automobile body forward of the two front doors to which are attached the windshield and instrument board c: cowling

And, per my reading of this defintion of "cowling" (below), a cowling IS a hood, making the term "cowl hood" redundant.
Main Entry:
cowl·ing
: a removable metal covering that houses the engine and sometimes a part of the fuselage or nacelle of an airplane ; also : a metal cover for an engine

Unless "cowl hood" is some term of art in this business that I have been heretofore unaware, I'm thinking that "hood with scoops" is a better descriptor.
Why do I even care? Because I'm not smart enough to keep up with the real experts and ASE-certified technicians who post here, as it is--so, the least I can do is try to use the correct terms. That way I get still get lost, but just not so often, so quickly, or so badly.
Thanks.
I got them off e-bay, the whole set (headlights, marker, and parking) for around $100, if I remember right.
The LMC cowl is a Reflexxions brand like I have. I got mine off e-bay cheaper though.
I think Cervinis has a kit to make the ram air hood functional.
A 3 inch cowel hood is high enough. The taller ones just don't look right.
As for the offroading question, I would think that muddy water would just splash up into the hood scoops.

John, nice truck where did you get those headlights, I want some.
