I own a 01 escape with around 110,000 miles on it. I purchased it about 2.5 years ago from a dealership with 98,000 miles on it. The transmission was replaced right before the purchase and came with a 1 yr/12,000 warranty. Recently I have noticed a slipping feeling when it shifts into 2nd gear. I checked the fluid and it was full and looked very well. It was due for an oil change and after reading on here about mercron 5 issues I decided to do the 4qt drain and refill on the trans at the time of the oil change, I did the tranny drain and refill 3 times using just plain mercron (12 qts swapped) The dipstick says mercron only and I cannot see any grind marks where maybe the dealership did the tsb on the fluid issue. After the fluid change, there is no change in the second gear slip feeling. I used my superchip flashpac from my diesel to read any DTC's that may have been stored, I come up with a P0732 code which is second gear ratio error. I called my service manager buddy at ford to have him check my p code, he couldn't cross it with anything he had so I belive the flashpac could be wrong on the p code but right on the diagnosis. Does anyone know what the fix is for a ratio error? I am hopeing that it may be something as simple as an output shaft speed sensor, but I would like some opinions first. Thanks in advance for your ideas.
If the transmission was new 2.5 years then it was filled up with Mercon V not Mercon/dexron.
The Esso tranny oil I used has anti-slip stuff in it.. Before jumping or spending try a new oil flush.
So the mercron 5 is causing a slip but not burning the fluid? I have no problem with changing the fluid again, but maybe I should get it flushed instead of doing the drop and fill method that I did already. Does the issue and the code seem like the work of mercron 5?
4th gear seems fine I guess, would that be overdrive? My wife says that since the drain and fill thing I did, the problem is very intermintant. One more flush and maybe the problem will be solved...I hope.
