In my opinion, coming into a ford truck site, and saying 'i hate fords' would be much like running up to a cop and yelling "im stoned out of my damn mind!!!"
Just a desperate call for help... in a place he knows he can find out anything and everything about one of these trucks.
I swear, some of the people on here have EGOs so massive that they would make their family suffer thru 3 hours of driving around the mall parking lot at christmas time just so they didnt have to park next to a chevy or a dodge or god forbid a honda...
Being asses isnt going to help him figure out how bad *** and reliable these trucks are.
And its funny you mention the ford drivers in your area Pete, quite a few on here have the exact same attitude.
Like i tell most people "i could care less about the other worthless pieces of crap ford made, all i care about are the ones which i own"
Ooooooooooh c'mon...it wasn't that bad...remember this is nice Ben after his all expense paid FTE vacation. I still say it was a nice post. Besides, he's begging for "it"...I'm just trying to help the ignorant newbie out before folks start getting annoyed by his antics.
Colo79Ford...Who made you the head of making sure everyone played nice
Ok, i shave my head and everyone is throing these zingers at me... very funny.... (j/k)
And I was trying to help...I got no issues with other brands...we got a caddy, a dodge, 2 jeeps, and 6 Fords...just figured he should show a little more respect to the site before he started spouting off what sucked and what was bad.the head of making sure everyone played nice
Showing respect for something before 'spouting off' (also called voicing opinion would be known as political correctness... and remember kids, Political correctness is a violation of my constitutional right to freedom of speech. (cant see it, but lost of sarcasm there)
I had a nice post written up trying to support him...but when he goes and says "we hate him" for loving imports
I do hate him for loving imports ohwell
what was the use of that, that's why I suggested he learned the site a little better and to learn the ropes.
Theres a difference between learning, and being taught. Having someone else show or tell you how to do it is being taught. Going out, making the mistakes, figuring out what to / not to say (see above about political correctness) is learning
Brentlee...I know you were.
Plus, in under a week the USA will have a new guy who is the head of making sure everyone plays nice, i cant remember if it was part of a "plan", or one of the "changes"
.
This isnt a poltical/political correctness place i should say....
the point is what do you expect from people who LOVE Fords, to come on and say I HATE FORDS and you've never owned a Ford...for them to be like OH YEAH FORDS SUCK MAN FOR SURE WELCOME to FORD TRUCK ENTHUSIAST!
it's like my brother who said I HATE ONIONS RINGS and he had never had an onion ring in his entire life....
I love fords, certain fords I cant stand and wouldnt own at all. I love certain chevy's too 0.0 DID HE JUST SAY THAT!? but yes when you have a 95 suburban that has 320,000 on the same engine and tranny you tend to love it. I am a bit era related too, give me a 70's ford over any other truck, dont give me an 80's of any truck EVER. the 90's i tend to lean towards chevy same with the 2000's but i still love the fords and consider them equals. The point is I like other cars that arent Ford, but I know better than to come on and start off my very first post with I hate fords, it isnt going to make you well liked. Ben was trying tell him if you hate Fords why say it in a Ford forum? that is like wearing meat around your neck and walking into a cage of hungry wolves and expecting them too ignore you....
Pete, the 400 would really love a bigger than stock camshaft, a 4bbl intake, and a 4bbl carb.
My particular 400 runs better with stock exhaust manifolds than it does with headers, most other 400's love headers.
I am very satisfied with the 400 i have, its low low compression (7.9:1) and has a pretty small cam (.484 / .510) with an edelbrock performer 400 intake, and a holley 650 cfm carb.
Before i converted to an hei ignition (thank you GM engineers), i carried a spare ignition module, dizzy cap, rotor, coil, and distributor roll pin.
As far as color, my 79 was originally the same maroon color as your truck, I personally think that color looks good on these trucks.
When you do your tune up, change the fluids in the diffs, and t-case, and manual trans also. Try to keep a regular interval with the gearboxes, i think its important. Like any older truck, make sure to keep everything that has a zerk greased well.
Welcome to FTE it doesn't matter we all have are favorite choices when it comes to vehicles, point is you got a Ford use this site as a tool and enjoy, watch that potty mouth this is a public forum.
well I think it looks like a hellofa nice truck, specially if hes going to put some work into it,never see ones like that around here.but ben is right bashing fords on this forum probably isn't in your best bet.but still it looks like a nice score
ahah, my how this thread has grown! its fine and yes i have seen people come onto another car site and be like so and so car sucks. i let it go because i really dont care what they think. i honestly dont need to be posting, but it is always nice to get involved in the community. thank you for the people that have helped by listing all the things that they recommend doing. and to add the transfer case and transmission are freshly rebuilt and i believe the diffs have had the fluid changed recently. and good call on those zerks i forgot old trucks still have them. oh and how are you guys doing with the gas mileage at higher speeds? is it that bad? i need to ask what the rear diff ratio is too? thanks again guys for helping and welcoming me. ill keep my comments to myself from now on. next week. ill have some real pics too.
With 4.10's and my summer tires (29") i get 10 MPG, with my winter tires (31.5") i average 13 MPG. I also stay out of the secondaries as much as i can, and try to run off the primaries as much as possible unless im in a hurry.
I personally keep my likes and dislikes to myself, like I may disagree with lifting or lowering your truck, but it's yours so do with it what U want, you know............anyway, welcome, hope you don't feel too offended with us here.........but you did 'sort of' start off on the wrong foot...............there are loads of knowledgeable people on this forum, I hope you can ask questions, get answers and help from there Ford-intellegence
If you really don't need to be posting, why are you still asking questions? These rigs have the aerodynamics of a brick. I can get 13.5 mpg's out of my Bronco at 70mph (3.55's/35's)...my red truck gets 8 mpg's at 70mph (4.88's/37's). Your truck will probably be in the 8-10 mpg range...and if it's lower it's probably not running right. But don't worry about asking questions on this forum if it isn't running right....because you don't need to be posting right? The gear ratio of your truck would have either been a 3.55 (most likely) or 4.10's. If you can get the codes on your warranty plate it'll have all the info you'll need.
I may be mistaken, but for someone who doesn't need to post on this site, seems like I just answered 3 of your questions...Weird
why? because its easier, its the american way. if the answer can be told to you or shown for you thats what people do. i could have just searched and researched all this info.and i could have found it. thats the point of these forums to access info easily and to be able to get help from other enthusiasts. and i ask the mpg question because even at 6 tons, a diesel can get 20 mpg.
