Torn between trucks

I'm looking into buying a used truck. I'm torn into buying a 96 F150 with a 5.7 ltr motor with 89K miles or a '00 F150 lariat with a 5.4 ltr motor with 69K miles. Both for the same price, both with a 4" lift kit, both with power everything. Which should I buy. They both look good but I do like the older looks but don't know how good the newer trucks are.

Thanks

If youre shooting for longevity, take the one thats the most OEM(Factory equipment) if you have any "inkling" that one or the other has been "modded" for something it wasnt designed for, keep THAT in mind whilst making the decision.
There are alot of people out there that would argue the logic of Modifications being detrimental, but in my 30+ years of mechanic work,Ive seen time and time again that making modifications to the OEM specs reduces reliability, economy, and resale value... Im sure Ill get some flack from the previous statement, but it is what it is....

If both are 4x2 or both 4x4 and if both are in the same condition as far as looks and mechanical shape, I'd go with the 2000 F150 if for no other reason than resale value.

p.s. 96 didn't come with a 5.7L.

I would go with the 2000 as well. They ride and handle better and I like the 5.4 better than the 351 myself. IMHO

I would go with the 2000. It is a better truck in pretty much all aspects, except looks! (in my opinion anyways )

Thanks for the replies. I think I'm going with the 2000 because of your suggestions and also it will be easier for my kids to get in with the four doors instead of two. I really like the looks of the older models though. I have a 97 F250HD that has that old look but need to get rid of it with a 10MPG fuel bill.

Any good mods for the 2000 truck. It already has a 4" lift and nerf bars.
