I purchased a Peak Back-up camera with the 3.5" screen. I temporarily hooked it up, and it worked great, reception was clear and good! I have not hooked it up, as I do not know the best spot for the camera. I mounted it on the license plate as suggested, (the top) and I could not see the hitch ball. The only location I could see the hitch ball was on the bumper above the receiver.
Any one else mount a similar camera, and where best did it work?
I have a VR3 Backup Camera from Stylin Concepts. 3½" screen. Mounted inside screen near bottom of dash under second A/C vent on driver's side. This was best location to work mirrors and BU Screen in unison without steering wheel blocking full view. I nearly ran over a 3 year old standing in my rear blind spot. Screen would have reflected child where my blind spot is. I take permanent inside power from cig lighter.
Mounted camera lens top of license plate and slaved power from backup lights. This top mount should reflect raised trailer hitch when backing. If not, build a makeshift marker with magnet to attached to trailer hitch. It takes practice to learn exact distance of vehicles or trailer hitch when using the BU camera. Only method of learning is practice.
Use flat head, non-slotted, non-wrench head bolts to tattach camera lens to aid in theft prevention.
I have a 3" drop hitch, and I was unable to see ball from the top of the license. Do you have a drop hitch? Where did you splice wire it in? Rear tail light somewhere? What color wire for postive and ground did you use? I was thinking of using trailer wiring for back up light power and grounding to frame somewhere. I am thinking of having the camera hardwired for constant power instead of the cig lighter for power.

What year you mount yours in?
Thanks for the response!
I doubt if you can see your truck's ball hitch from any camera position if the lens is mounted above the bumper. That is why I recommend practice backing and/or making a makeshift marker with magnet that attaches to your trailer hitch. I used to build trailers as an avocation but no longer do. Stylintrucks.com has two magnet markers that extend to 42" for backup guides that attach to the the truck ball and the trailer hitch. $19.99. Part #521042STY.
For the camera lens I spliced into my backup lights. If you want constant power you can slave off your backup or tail light lights. I cannot recall the wiring color codes, but an inexpesive, spear pointed wire tracer can iden any light you wish. You may also slave off the 4-pole trailer wiring for constant power. ~~~ For the inside camer screen I chose to use the cig lighter for power only because I was not sure if I would want the screen where I first placed it. And as life goes, where it started is where the wiring/screen remains. I am happing with it.
I mounted my BU camera approx 1½ years ago as soon as the parts house could get me one. Almost running over that little girl was sufficient convincing.

I have the VR3 and mounted camera on license plate for hitching boat trailers.
Took power from the backup lamp, but if I were installing again, would recommend a constant source of power so it does not turn off when you are moving between forward and reverse trying to line it up.
Use a live wire with a switch so the camera is not on all the time for nothing, per mfr's recommendations. Good luck.
I have the back-up camera system package on my truck.
Where ford put this camera (next to the tailgate handle facing down), is probably the best spot ever.
I'm able to park within 2 inches of my house, and I can hook a trailer up in under 3 minutes.
Plus, the monitor pops up in the rearview mirror, so I can use both the mirror and the monitor at the same time.

BRL, I also have a VR3. Did the company tell you that having the camera on for long periods of time is bad? I was considering a constant source and switch for highway purposes. (I'd call them up but it's Saturday and of course they are closed...) Thanks!
I am in the process of installing a back-up camera system that I got from Sam's club. $99.00 7" screen and wireless camera are being mounted on the rollback tow truck I drive. I just mounted the screen today. It's on the dash just to the right of the centerline. I will be running the camera in a key on camera on setup. I will get pics in a couple of days.
the manufacturer advises against having the camera on all the time, so put a switch in somewhere or it will prematurely fail. Using the backup light wire is a bad idea because the picture dies everytime you shift forward/reverse, and takes a few seconds to stabilize.
heres an idea..... use the backup light wire to trigger a timer..... maybe for a few minutes or so..... then it would be on constant while you parked, trailered a boat, etc, and it would be automatically controlled, without an extra switch.
