I forget the exact specs., but Ford does say put the covers on at snow or certain temperature, and also take them off at a certain temperature outside. That is one reason I put on the type I have. Mine have a couple cut outs that open and fold to velcro keepers. I was afraid I would restrict too much air.
Regarding the heat, absolutely right on. Practical, don't know how. We have a place in the north, I plug in just about every night as I know the temps will go below 20 degrees. I still wait for Glow Plugs to time out. Start is easy, and with the 2008 pre heater and heated seats, the truck is cozy in 60 seconds.
I too had one snap come apart. I feel sure I could find the self adhesive snaps if I wanted to remove for the summer, but like texas tech diesel says, the snaps are so small they look much better than going to FL and hitting all the LOVE BUGS!
I also agree with the above, never heard this to be an issue with the 7.3 or 6.0. Must be part of the redesigned air intake and second turbo.
