Intake manifold bolts

Hey,
I was wondering if anyone has replaced thier intake/exhaust manifold bolts, but still retained the factory washers. What type of bolts did you use? I was thinking of switching mine to a hex head machine bolt, due to clearence issuess with using an Offenhauser intake manifold. Any ideas?

I replaced mine when I swapped my stock intake and exhaust manifolds with an Offenhauser intake and Hedman header. The olds bolts were pretty rusted. I replaced them with grade 8 bolts of the exact same thread size and length. I also used new lock washers (the original bolts had captive lock washers). I replaced the original thick washers as well. I found exact replacements through Grangier.

I replaced all of my bolts with grade 8 studs. It helped a lot for hanging the manifolds from and has worked really well. As for the thick washers, I used my originals as I was told by several exhaust shops and mechanics that they don't really wear out. So far, I haven't had any issues at all with reusing them.

I replaced bolts with studs and stock log with EFI exhaust and Offy C manifold, and found alignment such that the stock thick washers did not cover satisfactorily to the circular indent on the EFI, some barely 'grabbing' any of the EFI manifold at all. Was considering making my own to get better coverage.

When I retrofitted my 300 with EFI exhaust and offy "C" I used an ARP stud and nut set number 100-1404. It is for Ford small block and had a few extras.
My truck had some eof the OEM washers missing. I found a bolt company local that had a hardened washer abut the same size.

If you look in my gallery you can see the washers.

I also used studs on the underside to make it easier to get the alignment. I think I'll eventually replace all of the bolts with studs. I just used standard automotive studs off the shelf at the hardware store & have had no problems.
