I am having a weird vibration over 70 mph, really starts kicking in over 80 mph and up. It is enought to make the passenger seat shake, and the dash start to vibrate as well. It has done it for as long as I have had it from when I got it a 50k on the clock stock. I can not rember if it did it with stock wheels cause I changed them the next day or so. I have eagle alloy series 058 16" wheels, with nitto terra grapplers on them 305/70/16. I just put a super lift 3" kit on the truck and that did not do a thing for it. Any ideas.
Recommend you go to a tire shop with GOOD balancing equipment. Their equipment will determine if your wheels and/or tires are out-of-round.
With balance and "round" issues out of the way, next step is the drive-shaft and other rotating parts. I have seen cases of balance-weights, (spot-welded, typically) coming off of torque convertors.
I would crawl underneath it and check out the u-joints and make sure they are in good condition. It's amazing how a little bit of movement gets magnified with more revolutions.
Thanks guys, I have done the blance thing and it still dose it, I am starting to belive drive shaft might be cause. My Grandfather has a 2000 super duty and he had to replace drive shaft for similar reasons.
one of our GMC work trucks need new U-joints around 50k too. We were told by the shop that the drive shaft lined up between the trans and the rear end so good that there is too little movement in the bearings. funny though, we've got about 200k out of the replacement set ?!?
I honestly don't know, but where in America is the speed limit over 70?
Combined with the fact that going 80+ mph in an Excursion is a major disaster just waiting to happen.

Good question and good point about high speeds.
First <> as to speed limits - out here in the west, several states have speed limits of 75. Since many people THINK there is some "cushion" before law enforcement will "write -you- up", people more often than not cruise at 80 or more.
Secondly <> as to 80+ speeds - I couldn't agree more. Our EX's have a VERY high roll-center, coupled with primitive ( meaning pre mid 1930's type) suspensions. VERY bad combination for high speed driving. In my view, 75 mph is WAY too fast except under the most ideal conditions.
I have the same problem at 70 and have changed wheels to factory put 2 sets of michelins and they are road force balanced. Still same problem I guess next I will pull drive shaft and have it checked for balance and put new joints in it since it is out.
Also in Idaho,Montana,Nebraska,Nevada,New Mexico, North Dakota,Oklahoma,South Dakota,Wyoming, and Utah all have interstate that one point or another have 75 mph speed limits there maybe others and Utah can post a speed limit over 75 on I-15 between milepost 222 and 64 if warranted by a safety study and a consideration of roadway geometry and population density. Only know this because it was a debate on another site and someone posted this from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. If I was smarter I would be able post link.
