How is every one doin tonight. I have a 1977 ford F-150, The bronco grave yard sales a twin stick up grade for np-205, what does it do for the transfer case!
I never saw a setup like that before. you got me stumped on what it would do.
just remember this is a great site to ask questions like this. if you ever have any other questions just throw them out there and somebody will answer them.
like dirt said...WELCOME TO FTE!!!!!! haha. but unfortunatly i cant help with the twin stick deal, i saw a jeep wrangler on extreme 4x4 a while back that that put on on tho
twin stick allows you to select 2lo front wheel drive and front wheel drive low. One lever is high low neutral for one axle and the other is high low neutral for the other axle. This is cool because sometimes you want to use 2 low on a hard packed surface or asphalt, now you can do so. If you have a locker in the rear it may be hard to turn, you can put the rear in neutral and drag it along with the front. Mostly hardcore rockcrawlers use twinstick setups. or mallcrawlers that think more levers the better, like shocks haha. We have an off road forum elsewhere on the site I encourage you to visit also.
One stick is high range-low range. The other is 2wd-4wd.
It allows you to be in 2wd-low range.
To do what the rock crawlers do, don't you have to have 2 transfer cases?

nope, straight is right
you are thinking of a doubler, which basically doubles you low range, so if you had a twin stick (the rear TC) and a doubler, you'd have 3 sticks.

You are also correct, the old school flat fender jeeps that had factory twin sticks were like you describe. but the after market ones are like I described. rock crawlers often have three sticks the two we are discussing for one transfer case and another that controls high and low on another half of a different transfercase, so they have high range, low range and lower range. Of course they can have any of those ranges with front wheel drive, rear wheel drive or four wheel drive. Complicated but pretty cool.
Straightsix is right. One shifter controls the front diff. The other controls the rear diff. Each shifter has a Low range, Nuetral and High range.
I'm going to run the JBG twin stick set up in my 54/78 F250 4x4 tow vehicle project. Shift the rear axle shifter into nuetral, apply the ebay, shift the front axle into high and it lets you turn much sharper. It can make manuvering a long truck ( with a long trailer ) in a small area much simpler.
You can also freak out the guy in the riced out honda at a stop light by doing a front wheel drive burn out in a big 4x4.
Hey, not to hijack too much, but fordman75, are you the same one that is building the cool truck on fullsizebronco? You should post it in your gallery here.
You can also modify your transfer case yourself to make it into a twin stick. There are several articles on the web that describe the process in detail. I did it to mine and it was fairly painless (except for getting that pig out of the truck). I built the shifters from scratch and built a floor shifter for the tranny while I was down there.
I've found several uses for the TS out on the trails and it's helped me out of some nasty spots.
As stated above, check out the offroad forum for more info.

Yep that's me. I'm posting the build progress in the projects forum here. I didn't really know which forum to post it in. It's half 73979 truck and half 48-60 truck. I'll look into setting up a gallery here. Didn't know I could.
