I'm sure this has been asked several times and I looked for any old threads but nothing,,, Anyway where were the jacks and tire irons stored on the 1953-56 trucks? It seems most people said they got shoved under seat and bounced around for the ride. How about panel trucks? I know originally they had single seats often having just the drivers seat. Thanks
I wish I could help you with this question as I often wondered the same thing. I had a 56 panel back in 68 that didn't have a jack but did have a spare tire mounted on the passenger rear side, the tire rested on the wheel well and had a bracket on the vertical post the had a threaded rod the bolted through the wheel hole, there was also a m clip with a wing nut through it on the side rail shelf that I presume held the tire iron but that was missing as well. I had mentioned this location once upon a time but don't recall any feedback,as I'm not sure if this was a factory install or something that a previous owner fabbed himself. The panel I have now came with nothing but the evidence that spare was between the frame rails at the rear but missing the bracket that would hold the spare. I'm not sure what the jack would have looked like , was it a bottle type screw or a bumper jack This post could end up being educational.

Thanks John, my 55 panel has the typical carrier between the rear rails. I do have a "shelf" type pouch which is metal that is screwed to interior wall behind drivers seat. I've always been told this was used for service paperwork, small tools, etc. I also have a similar type shelf at very end of interior near rear doors. I suppose this could have held the jack and tire iron? Others have said it was probably another tool compartment. The guys at Bob's F-100 said they were not certain of the original jack locations on the trucks or panels. It's always made me wonder, why wouldn't Ford specify in the owners manuals about the location or have a location that was obvious on the truck.
Hi Guys,
I found this older post about tire jacks and irons.
Any new info on the topic available?
I'm also wondering what the original jacks looked like any picks??
Thanks
Fred

I think what we came up with last time was that the 48-52 trucks had places behind the seat that the jack was held down by a thumb screw. No one has definite knowledge of a place for the jack in a 53-56 pickup or panel. It would fit in the space behind the seat standing up behind that little lip behind the seat. The handle would fit there too.
About the place for the spare on a panel: it would be the same place, under the truck between the frame rails, as it is on a pickup.
I think the last concession on the 53-56 trucks was that there was a "tool bag" that was stored under the seat and it included the jack. I'm not sure if we ever saw a pic of the tool bag.
