Hey all im looking at buying a new truck its an 89 f250hd with the 7.5l 460 and a five speed trans its also 2x4, has any one done towing with this drivetrain before and are there any upgrades youd reccomend thanks.
3.55's or lower with the 5sp and you should be able to pull a house. I have an 89 with C6, 3.55's and I would say it is good for 10,000 pounds or so. I think the hd manual would be even better. I know I wish mine was a 5sp just for a little better mpg.
Naw I'm just kidding, you should be able to pull whatever you want to with that truck. Since it is the HD I am gonna assume it has 4.10 gears or at least 3.50. A well tuned 460 can make the diesel boys cry. Before I made my F250 into a puling truck I could tow easier than my friend's 93 Cummins.
Thanks guys im not to sure on the rear axle ratio but i have a dually rear out of a 86 f250 with 4.10's i was planning on dropping in there, the only two trailers i tow is a 18' dove tail with misc scrap cars and trucks and a old 18" penske box with dually rear turned into a trailer and loaded with wood. I know power wise it will tow it im more concerned with floating as ive never owned a 2x4 before and i heard they tend to lift in the front if you treat em like a truck. Thanks again.
