Question Towing an Escape

I was wondering if any one has any info on towing an Escape behind a motorhome. My parents are considering towing their Escape and are trying to figure out if they need a tow dolly or can they tow it with 4 wheels on the ground. It is a 2000 Escape 4X2 with an auto trans and a 3.0 V6. If it can not be towed with the drive wheels on the ground, can modifications be made to allow it? If so, where can I get info? Any help on this will be greatly appreciated.

it is in the manual to tow it , the driveshaft must be removed each time or it will ruin the tranny

So, it looks like it can not be towed without a dolly as it would be quite a job to remove and reinstall the axle-shafts just to go on a vacation. We have looked in the owner's manual, but it does not cover aftermarket modifications. I looked at REMCO's website last night, but thay do not make anything for the Escape. I was hoping that someone might know of another manufacturer that might make axle disconnects for these vehicles.

The auto FWD needs to be towed with the front wheels on a dolly. The 4WD needs to have all four wheels on a trailer.

I'm not positive, but I think that the FWD 4-cylinder Escape with a 5-speed manual can be towed flat on the ground.

Thanks for the help guys. My parents have given up on towing their Escape and are now looking into towing their Durango.
