Fellas,

I'm considering buying a 2001 Clubwagon with 56k on it. I'm wondering if any of you have towed with a 4.6 liter. The biggest item that I'd be towing is a car hauler with a Packard or small 1st generation Econoline (61-67) on it. 99% of the rest of my towing would be towing my 17 foot Fourwinns Boat (fiberglass) with it. Any comments would be appreciated.

The owners manual should have a tow rating in it. It will depend on rear ratio and tire size etc. I have an Epedition with 4.6 and 3.55 axle. I canl tow about 6000#. Try posting in the towing forum. Those towing gurus should know. Good luck with it.

 

I've got a '98 F-150 w/ 4.6. Last year we towed our 5,000+ lb travel trailer 12,000 miles to Alaska and back; the odo turned over 100,000 during the trip. Absolutely no complaints.

But I never go over 55 mph while towing.
And I don't expect the truck to pull the rig up a steep grade at 55 mph.

Have towed my 18' boat over 20,000 miles as well.

I don't know what rear end I have, but I average about 12 mpg while towing.
