I've been having trouble locking in my hubs, I pulled them apart and found them to be very worn. Can anyone tell me who makes a good replacement hub for a Dana 44 1/2 ton.The hubs in the truck are the original parts.Any imput is appreciated.
Mile Marker, Warn, Superwinch, they all make good replacement hubs. I've used the Mile Marker and Warn hubs and had good luck with them. They make different quality hubs. It depends on how hard you use your truck as to what hubs to buy. Big tires, use it hard, I'd buy the heavy duty one's they offer. If its pretty much stock and you don't wheel it hard, buy the cheaper ones.
Well I had to replace the inner bearing on the right front,so I took a real good look at the hub and axle at the time. The stub axle is not centered in the spindle and will not allow the hub to engage until I physically push it over to center, I checked the knuckle and U-joint and both were good. If I want to go wheelin I have to remove the hub dial and push the axle over to go to 4WD. Any ideas as to why the axle is off center, I dont want to put the new hubs in if it it just going to ruin them again.?
Sounds like the needle roller spindle bearing is shot. This bearing is located inside the hollow spindle housing. It isn't hard to get out, but be very careful putting it back in. I recommend using the adapters from a clutch pilot tool or a bushing driver toll in order to drive the needle bearing assy. back in,and, of coarse, always pack the needles with grease before attempting any installation.

1. Mile Marker makes a premium piece with a stainless steel bezel. I have a set now and really like them.
2. CHANGE THOSE NEEDLE BEARINGS NOW!!! They're going away on you, and when they do they'll take your expensive stub axles with them. OUCH!
3. When you drive in the new needle bearings, pay close attention to how far down you drive them. There is a small V-lipped seal which sits on top of the needle bearing cage, and if you drive the bearing down too far the lip won't contact the teflon ring properly.
4. Go talk to whatever axle shop you buy parts from, and order 1 ea. Dana/Spicer P/N 706527X "Spindle Seal Set". Costs about $15. thru 4Wheel Parts Wholesalers and consists of an oil slinger V-seal, a teflon spacer ring, the needle bearing, and the needle bearing seal.
