I'm blowing fuses for the trailer lights, and at the same time my 4 wheel drive stopped working also there is a popping noise coming from somewhere under the truck when driving very slow. Any Ideas?
Regarding trailer lights, I had a similar problem; got under the vehicle near hitch and saw that the plug's ground wire attached to frame was severely corroded where it attached under the bolt - removed the bolt and cleaned out rust off connection and frame and it worked fine. The other thing to check for is the trailer wiring relay up in the relay box under the hood (if that's where your 98's relay box is, not sure); try replacing the relay, and pick up a spare relay to stow in your glove box just in case (I keep spare relays for critical circuits, like fuel pump, etc.). Sometimes, the internals of the relay can get corroded. This might be a simple fix. Hope this helps.
Not sure about the 4wd or popping, but it's possible it could be related to the shift motor on the transfer case, from what I've read here before.
does it only blow fuses when the trailer lights are hooked to the vehicle if so the problem may be with the trailer wiring? as far as the 4wheel drive not working first get out the drivers manual and ck the fuses or the relay
