Question Maintenance Manual Help

Ok....i am a dunce.

I have the two volume, factory maintenance manual for my 97 Eddie Bauer 2 WD 5.4 L.

I am going to remove the throttle body, but before i do, I wanted to have the kickdown, speed control, and accel cable adjustments bookmarked.

I found the removal and replacement section...but they stop short of showing the adjustments.

Any help is appreciated.

That's because, under normal conditions, no adjustments are needed.

No such thing as a "kickdown" on these things, those went out with carbed engines.

All you need to do is make certain there is no slack in either the throttle or speed control cables when the throttle plate is closed.

Although the spirit of this is correct, you will actually want a slight amount of slack to allow for expansion/contraction during different temperature ranges. You don't want one of those cables contracting and tightening up when cold and raising your idle on you.

Even if a cable did such a thing, the PCM would bring the idle speed back down anyway.

Kick-down function is done electronically, under the control of the PCM. There is no mechanical linkage or cable from the throttle to the transmission.
